Cinematic release of The Tall Man
09 May 2011
The Tall Man will be released by Hopscotch later this year. Produced by Darren Dale and directed by Tony Krawitz (Jewboy) this entrancing documentary dives deep into the issue of racism in Australia.
In 2004, Cameron Doomadgee, an Aboriginal man, was arrested for drunkenly swearing at police Sgt. Chris Hurley and died less than an hour after being arrested. An eyewitness account by another prisoner contradicts Hurley's later testimony that Doomadgee's fatal injuries were sustained in an accidental fall. Cameron Doomadgee's death triggered a full-scale riot on the Palm Island where this event took place.
The Tall Man is an important documentary, shedding a new light on Doomadgee's tragic death and the events that followed. Variety Magazine praises: ‘The Tall Man plays well and strongly on the big screen; TV viewing will diminish its rich visuals'. Cinema release dates to follow soon.
